Renewables ramp up - but for how long?

September 2011 was a ‘record-breaking month’ for the Feed-in Tariff (FiT) scheme, with over 16,000 projects becoming accredited (totalling 85 MW).

The previous record of 11,500 installations was set in August 2011. Since the scheme started 18 months ago, 85,000 installations have been registered. To date, solar photovoltaic (PV) makes up 97 % of the total installations by number, while wind makes up 2 %.

However, with the government's recent announcement of their proposal to dramatically cut Feed-in Tariff rates available to those planning an installation under 250 kW, can this surge in project accreditation continue?
