NFU Energy

The NFU is the biggest farming membership organisation in the country with over 70,000 farming members and 75,000 ‘countryside’ (non-farming) members.

The NFU uses FEC Services to provide its own Energy Service, giving a range of energy-based products to members. We also help in political negotiations on energy-related issues with Defra and other Government departments.

Climate change discount service saves horticulture £5m

NFU called in FEC Services to help when they wanted to develop a Climate Change Agreement with Government for the horticultural sector to give 80 % discount on the Climate Change Levy.

FEC helped to present the technical arguments to Defra and, once approved, took on the job of running the Scheme - including gathering all energy and production information from growers and helping them comply with the legal climate change agreements.

After a year's operation, the Scheme has saved the industry over £2 million as well as encouraging energy savings of an average of 5 % so far, all amounting to savings of over £5m.
