Horticulture energy saving

The horticulture sector successfully reported their Climate Change Levy performance to Defra. Overall the Sector achieved a reduction on the base year of 271 million kWh during the 05/06 period, which equates to a Sector saving of 63,830 tonnes of CO2 in the year. On average a site was able to achieve a saving of 1.75 million kWh’s of energy consumption, which equates to an average reduction of 411.8 tonnes of CO2 during the year. Whilst the CCL tax credits for this reduction will have been a big incentive for Scheme members, the biggest benefit will come from the savings they made by the reduced consumption.
